1) Who are you and what site(s) do you run?
My name is Mark and I operate a number of cam related sites. The one that is probably the most well known and the one that I spend the majority of my time on is CamModelDirectory.com. I also have a few white labels including 311Cams.com and iheartcams.com.
2) How did you get into the adult industry? How long have you been a part of the industry?
I have been working in the IT field for 20 years and about 5 years ago I got my first consulting engagement with an online adult entertainment site. I eventually joined the company full time and became interested in the webcam business several years ago. I noticed that there were very few sites for independent webcam models and after a great deal of research I decided to launch CamModelDirectory, with a focus on providing marketing and payment processing services for models.
3)What is your ultimate goal for your site? What about for the cam industry?
My plan is to grow CamModelDirectory into a site where independent models can promote and sell all of their services and products including cam shows, pictures, videos and clothing. Additionally, I want to continue to provide models an alternative to the big box sites so they can make a good living and keep 75% or more of her earnings. I believe that as more models see the benefits of being independent, and more viewers see the benefits of engaging with indy models, CamModelDirectory will continue to grow and will be able to provide more and better services for the indy camming community.
4)What are the best and worst things about running a camsite?
I find running CamModelDirectory to be very fun and rewarding. What could be better than seeing beautiful women day in and day out? I also enjoy the technical aspects of designing and maintaining a website. By far the worst part is dealing with scammers. There are so many people out there who use stolen cards or try to manipulate payments systems that it drives up the costs for everyone. It is a constant battle to prevent fraudulent transactions and is definitely the worst part of the job.
5) Have you or do you purchase camgirl services?
6)What is your off-the-job life like?
I spend most of my free time with my family. I also enjoy reading, fishing, playing tennis, kickboxing, watching movies and playing guitar.
7)Do you have any funny stories about working in this type of job? What's the strangest thing that's ever happened to you?
I always find it amusing when a scammer tries to list a fake model on CMD. I perform Skype interviews with every model prior to listing her on the site. On several occasions the "model" I interviewed was nothing more than a pre-recorded video. In one case, after I ended a Skype call with the fake model, I received a call back on Skype from the same ID. When I answered it was a completely different woman than the one on the pre-recorded video. She asked me why I had ended the call. She insisted that it was not a video and that she was the same woman who I was talking too a few minutes prior, even though they looked nothing alike. I'm not sure if these scammers think that they are that smart or that I am that stupid .
8)Is there anything you'd like to "clear up" about the owners of camsites?
I cannot speak for other site owners, but I run my business in the most professional manner possible. I view the models on CMD as my customers and treat them with respect. I believe we are partners in this business and together we can both make money and help each other be successful.
9)What is your best advice for a new model on your site?
In order for any model to be successful, especially independent models, she must use every tool available to market and promote herself. CMD allows models to place up to one ad every day and doing so will maximize her exposure on the site. CMD also provides additional premium services such ad Featured Ads and VIP Ads for nominal fees that will provide even more exposure. It is also important to use other marketing tools such as twitter and a personalized website as well. Outside of marketing, availability is key. When a client wants a show, he usually wants it right then. The more available and responsive a model is to potential clients, the more money she will earn. They key is develop a loyal group of regular customers who will keep coming back, thereby making the model's income stream both larger and more dependable.
10) how do you deal with scammers/chargebacks/nasty clients?
I use a very good payment gateway with advanced anti-fraud tools. It does s good job of preventing most fraud, but of course it is not perfect. Any chargeback immediately results in blacklisting of that card so that it cannot ever be used again on CMD. Fortunately for models, CMD takes on all risk of chargebacks and models are not penalized in any way when a chargeback occurs.
11) Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to address your questions and thank the Wecamgirls members for taking the time to read this. Any model who is interested in being listed on CamModelDirectory can apply at http://www.cammodeldirectory.com/information/model-registration/.
