For anyone who has a website in the United States, the numbers “2257” should be familiar. If they aren't then by the end of this article- make them something you are well aware of!

18 USC § 2257 - Record keeping requirements basically states that anyone who creates a sexually explicit picture of someone “shall create and maintain individually identifiable records pertaining to every performer portrayed in such a visual depiction.” This applies to every picture of every person. So if you go to the Cam Mansion, and get a picture with 40 naked girls and go to put that picture on your website, you need the following information about each of the following girls:
a. Name
b. Date of birth
c. “Provide such other indicia of his or her identity as may be prescribed by regulations”
d. “Ascertain any name, other than the performer’s present and correct name, ever used by the performer including maiden name, alias, nickname, stage, or professional name”

You must have this information ready at all times to present to the Attorney General in your state. Keep strict records of any friends you make videos or take photos with. Keep a photo diary. What happens if you violate this act? “Whoever violates this section shall be imprisoned for not more than 5 years, and fined in accordance with the provisions of this title, or both. Whoever violates this section after having been convicted of a violation punishable under this section shall be imprisoned for any period of years not more than 10 years but not less than 2 years, and fined in accordance with the provisions of this title, or both.”

So how do you make sure you don’t go to jail? Easy! Create a page (I named mine 2257) and copy + paste this phrase onto your web page:

In compliance with the Federal Labeling and Record-Keeping Law (18 U.S.C. 2257), all models located within our domain were 18 years of age or older during the time of photography. All models’ proof of age is held by the custodian of records, which is listed below, organized by producer. All content and images are in full compliance with the requirements of 18 U.S.C. 2257 and associated regulations.

Here’s an issue you are probably asking me- what address am I supposed to use?! My home address for the whole world to see?! Get a PO Box. This way you can use wishlists that require your home address. You can use this PO Box for any number of things. A UPS PO Box gives you an address that looks like an apartment and not a PO Box.

This is a great article, but I thought it should be noted that PO Boxes are not allowed as custodian of records addresses. They require a physical address. Though having a PO Box is definitely a good thing for a webcam performer to have. There is a mail forwarding service that uses a physical address at maillinkplus dot com, but the actual records wouldn't be there. There are also some 2257 services websites where you can pay to have your 2257 records hosted at their address.

I'm having trouble finding an official .gov website for it, but It's section 75.6(b) item 3 here:

"A street address at which the records required by this part may be made available. A post office box address does not satisfy this requirement." And here:

Until I see it from a Government source, I'm going to believe we can use PO Boxes

It's not cheap, but I hear good things about 2257snap.com. They provide 2257 record hosting services so you don't have to use your info.
